Year in Review

This post will be my last this year. Next week, with the holidays and school vacation, I'll be enjoying some time off. But I wanted to close 2012 with a look back and a big thanks for all that has happened in the past year.

I started this blog on January 3, 2012. Although it's been hard work, the blog has been instrumental in making 2012 so rewarding for me. I love to write, and the blog has given me a vehicle to do so regularly. Through blogging, I've expanded my universe in countless ways. I attended the Design Bloggers Conference in L.A. and Blogfest in New York. I went to shows like the Architectural Digest Home Design Show, Spring Market in High Point, the International Contemporary Furniture Fair, the Brimfield Antique Show, and the New York International Gift Fair. And I was one of 19 bloggers invited to attend Brizo Fashion Week, a 3-day event sponsored by the faucet brand coinciding with New York's Fall Fashion Week.

If a year ago I could foresee all of this happening just from launching the blog, I would not believe it. The travel has been great, but more importantly, I've met so many amazing and talented people that are now dear friends. Anyone who is cynical about the power of social media should just read this post to change their viewpoint.

My year work-wise has also been amazing. I started the year working on the design of The Painted Burro, one of the best new restaurants to open this year in Boston. I continue to work with the group that launched the Burro and also have an exciting new lounge project coming my way in 2013. In another arena, the Junior League of Boston invited me to participate in its Show House this fall. They accepted my proposal for The Inner Sanctum, a haven and retreat for the female head of household. My participation in the Show House was fodder for the blog. But it also introduced me to more wonderful and talented artisans and designers with whom I was proud to be associated. And though I do not have final confirmation, my space was photographed for a regional shelter magazine and may be published. Definitely a major accomplishment!

As if this weren't enough (which it most certainly is!), I won an iPad at Blogfest and a painting by acclaimed artist Giovanni DeCunto at an InStyleTour dinner. Not too swaggy! And at the end of the year, to top it all off, my blog was voted 17th overall by the design community in its list of the Top 100 Interior Design Blogs.

Truly, it's been an amazing year and satisfying journey. Thank you so much for taking the ride with me. I wish you a happy holiday season, filled with the joy and comfort of family and friends. Let's all hope for a fruitful and peaceful 2013.
